Professor Lennart Bengtsson has unexpectedly resigned from The Global Warming Policy Foundation. His letter to the chairman reads as follows:

Dear Professor Henderson,

I have been put under such an enormous group pressure in recent days from all over the world that has become virtually unbearable to me. If this is going to continue I will be unable to conduct my normal work and will even start to worry about my health and safety. I see therefore no other way out therefore than resigning from GWPF. I had not expecting such an enormous world-wide pressure put at me from a community that I have been close to all my active life. Colleagues are withdrawing their support, other colleagues are withdrawing from joint authorship etc.

I see no limit and end to what will happen. It is a situation that reminds me about the time of McCarthy. I would never have expecting anything similar in such an original peaceful community as meteorology. Apparently it has been transformed in recent years.

Under these situation I will be unable to contribute positively to the work of GWPF and consequently therefore I believe it is the best for me to reverse my decision to join its Board at the earliest possible time.

With my best regards

Lennart Bengtsson

If you had any doubt that this global warming “debate” is one of manipulation and intense threats and abuse, look no further. If we have a professional and informed debate, we run the risk of the truth escaping into the public’s awareness – and we can’t have that!!! This conversation is not about science and through science reaching the truth. It is like so much of science today – a manipulated tool to convince the public of a bald faced lie and it has been going on for a long, long time. The scientific investigative process is a powerful tool, but that does not mean that all science uses it with accuracy and integrity, nor does it consider the context within which that process is applied. Most scientists don’t understand this, let alone Joe Public.

When I was doing my PhD many years ago, I was studying a cracking problem in high strength low allow pressure vessel steels. When I began my work, almost every paper I read on the subject spoke of how this was in some manner related to the presence of trace impurities in the steel, referring to some early work which correlated cracking susceptibility with certain impurity levels, showing how the level of susceptibility was a linear relationship related to various impurities. What no-one appeared to do was go back and read the original work. This work actually showed nothing of real value, since it in essence was a matter of x variables and x unknowns and of course the results fell on a straight line. It was not a statistical analysis, but some quite crude work in a scientific sense. But everybody in the field accepted its truth.

In this example, this was not some planned manipulation but resulted from the reputation of the individual who had done the work – but it illustrates how easily inaccuracies are accepted as truth. And it this steering of the truth that is intentionally undertaken in our world all of the time – and those who bring forth the truth or dare to question the lies being perpetrated are treated with scorn and derision, or in many cases subjected to a coordinated attack, as it seems Professor Bengtsson was.

For example, few understand that the parameters defined for the IPCC were to only consider the human impact of global warming, with no consideration being given to the role of the sun. Excuse me? By setting the panel’s parameters in this way, the outcome is assured. This kind of thing happens all the time. It happened with the Warren Commission looking into the assassination of JFK. It happened with the 9/11 commission. And we are encouraged to just consider the report, without considering the context of that report. This process of defining the context to ensure a chosen outcome is done by those behind the public game all of the time; it’s simply that the public is yet to wake up to it. But they are waking up.

Here is Ben Davidson’s response to Bengtsson’s resignation.
