I always smile wryly when I read of the Titanic, because it was not the Titanic that sank!!!
It was her sister ship the Olympic, intentionally sunk as an insurance scam, because the Olympic was already so badly damaged that it was uninsurable. You think these kind of scams are recent? I hate to disappoint you. Watch this excellent documentary on this elaborate hoax that went wrong.
