One of the most alarming examples comes, not at all surprisingly, from the UK Government, which is currently agitating for new counter-terrorism powers “including plans for extremism disruption orders designed to restrict those trying to radicalize young people.”…

…Threats to free speech can come from lots of places. But right now, the greatest threat by far in the west to ideals of free expression is coming not from radical Muslims, but from the very western governments claiming to fight them. The increasingly unhinged, Cheney-sounding governments of the UK, Australia, France, New Zealand and Canada — joining the U.S. — have a seemingly insatiable desire to curb freedoms in the name of protecting them: prosecuting people for Facebook postings critical of Western militarism or selling “radical” cable channels, imprisoning people for “radical” tweets, banning websites containing ideas they dislike, seeking (and obtainingnew powers of surveillance and detention for those people (usually though not exclusively Muslim citizens) who hold and espouse views deemed by these governments to be “radical.”

End of quote.

For me, Greenwald is one of the most committed journalists around, bringing forth the revelations about Ed Snowden and, historically for example, the impact of decriminalising drugs in Portugal.

But it seems to me that Greenwald fails at the hurdle that blocks almost every “mainstream” journalist, including the likes of John Pilger, that great champion of the excesses of global hegemony, and that is to peel the onion to understand WHY these things are happening.

In our recent history, for example, the fact that 9/11 was a false flag event to justify the Patriot Act, the war on terror and the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan seems too horrific for him and his colleague, Laura Poitras, to contemplate. Yet one only has to note that THREE buildings came down (including Building 7) at the WTC that day at free fall speed tells you they were DEMOLISHED. No plane impact high up could cause this. Not only that, the BBC announced the destruction of Building 7 20 minutes before it fell. And there are many aspects of this that I have written about on my blog.

But the issue is much deeper and older than this. Henry Ford purchased the Dearborn Independent so he could write about what he saw happening to United States in 1920 and 1921, including the complete control of US supply by Bernard Baruch during WWI.

Until and unless journalists such as Greenwald begin to understand the context which creates the world we experience, their commentary and insights, whilst useful, will continue to only deal with the symptoms of these underlying agendas in our world. For example, until you understand the underlying global agenda, the fact that all of the Western countries are acting in lock step to restrict free speech and act to authorise total surveillance of both their citizens and everyone else on the planet, or that the TPP and its Atlantic equivalent TTIP are being negotiated in secret, make no sense.

But when you join the dots, it all fits.

May Greenwald and his cohorts take the time to look deeper and truly expose what is going on in our world, if their employer gives them that freedom. I doubt John Pilger ever will.
